Charles’ Reviews: Ploning

In celebration of Judy Ann’s 30th birthday, she stars and produced a remarkable and ground-breaking film Ploning.

Judy Ann Santos stars as Ploning, a simple girl from Barrio Cuyo in Palawan, that embarks a simple relationship-based story to her father, lover and everybody else in their small Barrio. It may be one of Judy Ann’s best performance, a truly remarkable feat for her. Ploning conveys a simple message: Ang pag-ibig ay naghihintay at umaasa, na kahit sa anong paraan, maaari tayong magbigay ng pag-ibig sa lahat ng tao.

Philippines: Epicenter of Rice Crisis

As I have already spread out in the first part of this post, there are many factors why the rice prices are going up, way up high. Personally, I believe that there is a rice shortage, unlike the statements of our government officials disputing the rice shortage as a myth.

The Philippines has been scrambling to boost stocks and supply cheap rice to the poor as rice prices soared to near-record levels in recent months amid increased demand, crop failures, a shift to biofuels production or other land uses, and poor investment in the farm sector. The Philippines imports about 10 percent of its domestic rice requirement. The problem with our culture system is that we always believe that we can buy rice in any country, at any price. But with the factors coming in, especially the population increase and effects of climate change, there are rice shortage looming.

South East Asia: Center of the Rice Crisis

Rice is the most staple food in this country, where in every corner of this archipelago, people are looking for rice. We never thought that there would be a rice crisis - or shortage of rice production, - but here we are now, at the center of the rice crisis. The government spends about $0.46 in every $100 of agriculture output, a level much lower than those of developing countries, which spends $0.53 in every $100, and much much lower in highly industrialized countries at $2.00 in every $100.

Now, where is the Philippines in this picture? Let’s not pin-point the Philippines as the main culprit. But yes! We do have contributed in this crisis - and we are in the forefront of the crisis. But there are many other reasons why we do have this crisis.

I’m glued to my portable DVD Player because…

of KYLE XY - a SciFi hit series of ABC Family. Yes! Aside from my other TV habits like teleseryes, Heroes, the Simpsons, I have a new addiction this summer. Here’s a little background of Kyle XY from Wikipedia

Kyle XY is an American drama television series filmed in the Vancouver, British Columbia area. The show centers around a boy named Kyle (Matt Dallas), who wakes up in the forest outside of Seattle, Washington with no memory of his life up until that point. The series follows Kyle as he tries to understand the mysteries of who he is or why he has no memory of being a child. He is sometimes shown with his shirt partially off and no belly button can be seen.

Main Cast of the Show

  • Matt Dallas as Kyle Trager
  • Bruce Thomas as Stephen Trager
  • Marguerite MacIntyre as Nicole Trager
  • Jean-Luc Bilodeau as Josh Trager
  • April Matson as Lori Trager
  • Chris Olivero as Declan McDonough
  • Kirsten Prout as Amanda Bloom
  • Jaimie Alexander as Jessi Hollinder (Season 2+)

I am watching this is my portable DVD player because Studio 23 which airs the show here in the Philippines, canceled their schedule for the show, so now, I’ve been in my room watching it before I go to sleep.

And for additional: Other shows which I propped up into my DVD player:

  • the latest season of The Simpsons
  • the hit Koreanovela from ABS-CBN, Marrying a Millionaire
  • and one of my favorites TV shows today, The Original:Hana Kimi

Charles’ Reviews: Manay Po 2: Overload

Its been years since I had my last movie review (Evan Almighty), but now since its vacation, I can do a lot more. Just this week, I watched two movies that opened: a local gay-themed comedy Manay Po 2: Overload; and a foreign parody Superhero Movie. But right now, I’m going to tell about Manay Po!

MANAY PO 2: OVERLOAD, Regal Entertainment

I won’t deny that I have a lot of gay friends, and I do enjoy their company - they always give me a big laugh - that’s why a lot of entertainment media uses gays as a point of comedic values of the industry. And they have not failed to entertain us. So, if you find gay humor amusing, then you can spend some time watching this film, and definitely, you won’t waste time and, of course, precious money.

Dear Students

Dear Students,

Isang makasaysayang araw!

For more than nine months, we greet each other with this same greeting. We do not discover that each day, we create our own history. What happened everyday are all episodes – episodes of our personal history. Yet - we repeat our mistakes. We do not reflect that history expect us not to do it.

One lesson that I would like to impart with you is that, history do not repeat itself. We cannot recreate what happened, restore our relationships, repair our wrong doings, and so therefore we must use our precious time to fulfill our dreams, perform our duty and achieve our greatness

As a teacher, I tried to teach lessons to reach more than what is in the book. It is called life lessons – these things that guide us from what is right and what is wrong.
